Boat Insurance - FAQ's

With a boat insurance policy what is typically covered?

  • Damage to your boat, or dinghy caused typically by storm, accident, fire, theft, attempted theft & vandalism.
  • If you cause personal injury to another person or your passengers for which you are liable.
  • Should you accidentally cause damage to other property such as another boat or marina.

If I run into difficulty and need advice on a claim is there anyone I can talk too?

Our 24-hour claims advice line is always there to advise you if you run into trouble, and offers peace of mind at difficult times.

Can anyone else sail the boat / dinghy or do they need a qualification?

Provided they have your permission and are over 18 years of age they can be in charge of the vessel (and have relevant qualfications if required).

Can more than one owner be listed on the policy?

An owner is someone with a financial interest in the boat. If there is more than one owner, we need to have each owner's name and address listed on the policy. If there is ever a claim, the payment would be payable to all the insured parties.

My vessel is permanently based outside of Ireland. Can I still insure it with Allianz Direct?

We currently only insure boats based in Ireland, so we are unable to insure your boat at the present time.

Can I insure my Jet Ski with Allianz Direct?

We do not insure Jet Skis, Wet Bikes, Surf Jets or other craft of a similar nature.

What is the minimum / maximum third party liability amounts you cover?

The minimum third party liability amount covered under the policy is €1,500,000. Some marinas require a minimum amount of third party cover in order to berth in their marina and for this reason we give you various choice's to increase this cover at an extra cost up to a maximum of €5,000,000.

Is the boat covered outside the water?

Yes

Is the vessel covered whilst being trailed?

Yes, within Ireland and U.K but excluding road traffic liability (refer to you motor insurer).
