Questions and Answers

Q. What is the difference between Option A and Option B ?

Answer - Option A - All of the pupils on the school roll participate in the scheme and they all take the same cover i.e. all pupils take School Activities cover or all pupils take 24 hour cover. Option A costs €4 per pupil for School Activities cover and €7 per pupil for 24 hour cover.

Option B - Each individual pupil chooses the cover they require i.e. School Activities cover or 24 hour cover. With Option B it doesn't matter how many of the pupils participate in the scheme, it can be one or all of the pupils in the school. Option B costs €5 per pupil for School Activities cover and €8 per pupil for 24 hour cover.

Example 1:

There are 100 pupils in the school. Only 50 take out the Personal Accident cover. In this case it has to be Option B as all of the pupils in the school are not participating. As it's Option B these 50 pupils can choose if they want School Activities cover or 24 hour cover. 10 could pick School Activities cover and the remaining 40 could pick 24 hour cover.

Example 2:

There are 100 pupils in the school and all participate in the scheme. They all go for 24 hour cover. This is Option A which offers the lower premium of €7 per pupil.

Example 3:

There are 100 pupils in the school and all participate in the scheme. 80 pupils choose 24 hour cover and 20 choose School Activities cover. Even though all pupils participate this is Option B because they choose different covers.

Q.Who is entitled to the 30% discount when applying online ?

Answer - Under financial regulations, the school must pass on the 30% discount to parents/guardians who wish to have their child included in the Schools Group Personal Accident Cover. The parents/guardians can accept the discount off the individual premium or alternatively submit the higher amount allowing the school to retain the full 30% discount towards school funds. We will look at Examples of how this may affect your school, using a total premium of €500:

Example 1:

All parents pay the higher amount - the school benefit from the full 30% discount and therefore pay Allianz €350 and retain €150 towards their own school funds.

Example 2:

Only 80% of the parents pay the higher amount and 20% pay the discounted premium. The school will still only pay Allianz €350. However, as you will have collected €470 and not €500, you will retain €120.

Q. When applying do I need last year's password / reference number ?

Answer - No, simply log on to www.allianz.ie/schools and purchase your policy. When purchasing you will be taken to a screen which has three categories:

  • We are applying for a new Pupil Personal Accident policy, having not had this cover in the previous 12 months.
  • We are an existing Pupil Personal Accident policyholder and wish to renew for the period 01/09/10 to 31/08/11.
  • We have already bought a Pupil Personal Accident policy for the period 01/09/10 to 31/08/11 and wish to amend pupil numbers.

Please ensure you select the correct category as shown above when applying i.e.

"existing" - you have a newsletter issued in August with your policy number

"amend" - you have already purchased cover for this school year and have a confirmation page/e-mail showing a new reference number - see below*

*When purchased, you will be given a new reference number. It should be retained as this reference number is required everytime extra pupils are added during the 2010/2011 school year (if availing of Option B). The new reference number will be on your confirmation page which will automatically print when you complete the online application. We will also send you an email after you purchase the policy which will contain this reference number.

Answer - Yes, horse riding is covered, however, horse/pony racing or jumping of any kind is excluded.

Q. Are the pupils covered outside Ireland ?

Answer - Yes, however, as this is a Personal Accident policy only, we would recommend that a Travel insurance policy is arranged for trips abroad to cover illness, lost baggage etc.

Q. Is the pupil still covered if they move school mid-year ?

Answer - When a parent pays the premium for their child to join the Schools Group Pupil Personal Accident cover, it is specific to that school. If during the year they leave that school to go to another school, all cover for that child ceases at the original school, as they are no longer on the school roll. The policy is in the name of the school, not the parent. However, if they move to another school that has Pupil Personal Accident cover with Allianz we will include them in that new schools Pupil Personal Accident cover.

Q. What is the procedure for making a claim ?

Answer - The parent/guardian completes the claim form (the claim form can be printed from HERE, or we can send it out to the school or parent/guardian on request)

  • The claim form will be signed by the parent /guardian and will also need to be signed by the school principal.
  • If the Policy is on an Option B basis, the principal will have to check their records to ensure the pupil is covered and the type of cover applicable i.e. 24hr or School activities cover only.
  • The claim form should then be sent to Allianz along with any accompanying medical bills/receipts (if there are likely to be additional expenses as a result of the accident, please send a note with the claim stating that and we will keep the claim open).

All correspondence should contain the policy or reference number together with the school phone number and sent to :

Pupil Personal
Accident Claims Department, Allianz House,
Elm Park, Merrion Road, Dublin 4.
