Lewis Hamilton came out on top of the battle of the Mercedes drivers at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Hamilton fought his way past Nico Rosberg, who had qualified in pole position, at the beginning of Sunday’s race at Suzuka, before pulling away to record a comfortable victory.

Rosberg recovered from dropping to fourth at the start to finish in second place, as Mercedes secured a one-two result, but the German is now 48 points adrift of his teammate in the World Championship standings, with just five events remaining in the season.

Nico Rosberg has held off the determined challenge of Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton to win the Mexican Grand Prix.

The German started on pole and led throughout to hold off the new world champion by just under two seconds.

Rosberg's fourth win of the season - his first victory in four months - saw him leapfrog Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, whose poor display ended when he crashed out, into second spot in the drivers' standings.
