Reporting an incident/ Making a claim
In the event of an accident you should report the incident to your insurance company as early as possible. It is also a must you obtain the following information in the event of an accident:
- The names, contact details, and vehicle details of all party’s involved
- The insurance details, including the policy number of all party’s involved
- Details of any witnesses to the incident or members of an Garda Siochana that attended the scene of the accident
The more information that you can provide the better because this will mean your insurance company is better equipped to support you following the accident.
Remember – Do not admit responsibility or sign any statement to that effect. Doing so could mean you make yourself liable and invalidate your insurance policy.

Aligned Repairers are specific motor repairers that insurance companies work with following claims. Allianz Ireland coordinates with a network of 38 authorized and approved repairers, nationwide. The aligned repairers’ network allows for a quick hassle-free repair of vehicles following an accident. David Fitzgerald, Head of Claims with Allianz Ireland highlights: “At Allianz we have an extensive panel of approved Aligned Repairers nationwide for our customers to choose from following an accident. Allianz guarantee the work carried out on your motor vehicle by an Aligned Repairer for three years from the date of repair.”
3 year guarantee, courtesy car, and direct garage billing
The 3 year guarantee offers considerable piece of mind to our customers who avail of the service. Furthermore, amendments to the Consumer Protection Code (CPC) in 2012 provided more, and welcome, clarity to insurance customers who utilise third parties to undertake restitution work on a vehicle. The revisions require customers to be provided with a full written estimate of cost of repair with a breakdown of cost, and Allianz will certify the work undertaken has restored the vehicle to at least the standard that existed before the accident. This provides increased protection, transparency, and peace of mind to car insurance customers.
Fitzgerald concluded: “Furthermore, if you choose to use an Aligned Repairer you can also benefit from a Class A courtesy vehicle for 5 days and direct garage billing, all you have to do is pay your policy excess and we will take care of the rest”.
