Car Insurance Cover

Our flexible Car Insurance product allows you to build a policy tailored to your needs starting with Third Party Fire and Theft and adding the cover you want as you go along including Comprehensive Cover, Breakdown Assistance, Windscreen Cover and more.

Cover Types

We offer two types of Car Insurance cover; Third Party Fire and Theft and Comprehensive Insurance. Our basic cover includes Third Party Fire and Theft while Comprehensive cover is available to add as an optional extra.

Third Party Fire and Theft Cover

  • Fire and Theft Damage to your Car*
  • Unlimited personal injury legal liability to Third Parties
  • Third Party property damage, legal liability up to a limit of €30,000,000

Comprehensive Cover

  • Accidental and Malicious Damage to your Car*
  • Fire and Theft Damage to your Car*
  • Unlimited personal injury legal liability to Third Parties
  • Third Party property damage, legal liability up to a limit of €30,000,000

*Limited to a maximum of your car’s market value at the time of loss or damage.

Standard Features

The following features are available as standard with an Allianz Car Insurance policy although some are available Comprehensive Cover only.

Increase Excess

Increase Excess (Comprehensive cover only)

We offer an additional premium reduction for choosing higher excess. Please note that by choosing higher excess you will be required to pay more in the event of a claim.

European Cover

European Cover

We provide free cover for driving within the EU and other countries. Includes cover for up to 60 days. Please note that our Breakdown Assistance (if you have this cover) is only available while driving in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

Temporary Substitutions

Automatic Cover for Temporary Substitutions

We provide cover for private cars up to 2000cc for 7 days, loaned by a garage to the policyholder, whilst his/her own car is being serviced or repaired.

Fire Brigade Charges

Fire Brigade Charges

We will pay for charges made by a Fire Authority under the Fire Services Act 1981 to control or put out a fire in your car, or remove the driver or passengers from the car using cutting equipment. We will pay provided the fire gives rise to a valid claim under your policy and the maximum we will pay is €1,000.

New Car Replacement

New Car Replacement

We will replace your car with a new one of the same specification (subject to availability) if, within twelve months of its purchase as new, and provided it has not travelled more than 24,000 Kilometres, it is:

  1. Accidentally damaged within the meaning of your policy cover to an extent greater than 60% of the manufacturer’s last published list price (inclusive of Value Added Tax).
  2. Lost by theft and not recovered within 14 days of the loss being reported to Us subject to:

    1. the car being owned by you or being purchased under a hire purchase agreement but excluding any car which is the subject of a leasing agreement or contract hire agreement
    2. the agreement of any interested hire purchase company to the extent of their legal entitlement. 

Applies if car bought as new by you and within 12 months of it being first registered: where repairs to the insured car exceed 60% of the manufacturer's recommended price plus tax, where the car is lost by theft and not recovered within 14 days of loss being reported to us.

Replacement Locks & Keys

Replacement Locks & Keys

We will pay up to a maximum of €750 towards the cost of replacing and or recoding of locks, keys or similar devices if they are stolen during a break-in, assault or threat of violence. Please note that we will not pay if the keys are stolen through deception or fraud, stolen by a family member, if the loss is not reported or if the keys are recovered. Please refer to Section 4, Benefit 6 of the Car Insurance Policy Document for full details.

Motor Tax

Motor Tax

We will pay the amount of the un-expired portion of motor tax if you are unable to recover a refund from the Licensing Authority following a statutory write-off (which is insured under your policy) of your car.

Claims Notification & Emergency Service

Claims Notification & Emergency Service

The Emergency assistance service is available to all policyholders 24/7/365 in the event of fire, vandalism, theft or attempted theft. In the event of an accident the assistance service is available if you have Comprehensive cover. As part of the service, we will get you home safely, tow your car to one of our approved garages and give you a free replacement car for up to 5 days while yours is being repaired. If your car is stolen we will give you a replacement car for up to 14 days at no extra cost.

The following features are available as optional extras with an Allianz Car Insurance policy. Please note that some are available with Comprehensive Cover only.

Step-Back Bonus Protection

Step-Back Bonus Protection (Comprehensive cover only)

Protect your No Claim Bonus entitlement by adding Step-Back Bonus Protection. By choosing this feature, you can make one claim in a four year period knowing that your discount is protected.

As a result of any one claim your No Claim Bonus will be reduced by 3 years, as follows:

Protect your No Claim Bonus entitlement by adding Full No Claim Bonus Protection. With No Claim Bonus Protection from Allianz you may incur one unlimited claim in a 3 year period without affecting your No Claim Bonus entitlement.

In any consecutive 3 year renewal period, where you make a Third Party or Accidental Damage claim, Your No Claim Bonus will be affected as follows:

Windscreen Cover

Windscreen Cover

Take the hassle out of getting your damaged windscreen fixed by selecting Windscreen Cover.

Windscreen Cover includes all glass in the car including sunroof (where there is one) but excluding mirrors and lights provided the claim is processed through our Aligned Repairer network. Payment is limited to €200 if a non Aligned Repairer is used. Refer to Endorsement No. 3 of the Car Insurance Policy Document.

Driving Other Cars

Driving Other Cars

Enjoy Third Party cover while driving other private cars, giving you the freedom and flexibility you need.

Your legal liability to third parties is covered while you drive any car not belonging to you or your employer, that is not hired or leased under a hire purchase or leasing agreement, or that is not the property of a motor trade business to which you are connected. Please note: fire, theft or accidental damage cover does not apply while you are driving in these circumstances. Cover is limited to use within Ireland and the United Kingdom only. Refer to Endorsement No. 4 of the Car Insurance Policy Document.

Personal Effects and Clothing

Personal Effects and Clothing

Everyone values their possessions. We will pay you (or at your request such other person as may be the owner of the property) up to €200 for loss of or damage to personal effects and clothing while in or on your car by fire or theft (attempted theft) or by accidental means. Please note that the car must not have been in use for hire or reward purpose at the time of loss or damage and that certain items are excluded. Please refer to Endorsement No. 6 of the Car Insurance Policy Document.

Personal Accident

Personal Accident

Get peace of mind in the event of an accident. Where the driver or any other occupant of the car suffers injury by accidental means whilst travelling in your car, we will, at your request, pay  the injured person the benefits detailed in Endorsement No. 8 of the Car Insurance Policy Document. Please note that this is limited to a total amount of €12,700 and is subject to the provision of adequate evidence in the event of a claim.

Trailer Cover

We will pay for loss of or accidental damage to any trailer, provided it's covered under the policy and the details have been given to us.

Breakdown Assistance

Breakdown Assistance

Get peace of mind 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Allianz Breakdown Assistance protects you if your car breaks down due to mechanical or electrical issues like a flat battery, a puncture, a lock-out, or if your car is filled with the wrong fuel or lubricant. Limits and exclusions apply. Please refer to Endorsement No. 13 of the Car Insurance Policy Document and the Breakdown Assistance Insert.

Significant Exclusions


Excess

Excess

  • Standard excess is €250.
  • Excess is increased by €125 where the Policyholder holds a Learner Permit/Provisional Licence.
  • Additional drivers aged 17-24 all licence types: excess is increased by €200
  • Additional drivers aged 25 and over, holding a Learner Permit / Provisional Licence: excess is increased by €125
  • Please note that, Excesses will apply in addition to one another

Fire Theft and Accidental Damage

Fire Theft and Accidental Damage Cover

Where accessories, spare parts, audio, telephone, navigational, global positioning equipment or in-car entertainment are other than as provided for in the manufacturer’s specification for your car, We will only pay for the cost of replacing manufacturer’s standard items unless you have notified the change to us and we have agreed to provide cover.

Your car must be missing for 14 days after we have been notified before we will consider it lost by theft.

In the event of a claim for the theft of a car, we will request the keys of the car from the registered owner.  Failure to provide the keys may have an impact on any claim you make under this section of the Policy.
