  • Yes, Allianz will provide up to 30 days cover free of charge if a driver is at least 25 years of age, has a full clean licence, no more than 6 penalty points/ two offences and is conviction free.
  • Allianz will also provide up to 7 days cover free of charge if a driver is at least 25 years of age, has a provisional Irish clean licence/learner permit, no more than 6 penalty points/ two offences and is conviction free. An additional excess of €125 applies in the event of a claim for the provisional licenced driver.
  • If you would like to add a temporary driver to your policy, please contact us and we would be happy to help. 

Yes, a charge will be applied for adding a temporary driver under the age of 25 to your policy that holds a full licence or a provisional Irish licence/learner permit. The driver must have a clean licence, no more than 6 penalty points/ two offences and is conviction free. An additional excess of €200 applies in the event of a claim for the under 25 driver.

Open driving covers anyone between the age of 30 and 70 to drive your car once they have a clean driving licence, this means they can have up to six penalty points with no more than two offences. 

Open Driving is an optional cover and is applicable for all policyholders except in cases where the insured holds a second car/van/taxi policy in their name. 

If you have an Open Drive Insurance policy, it’s up to you who you let drive it. However, for us to protect you, your car and the other driver, they do have to meet a few conditions:

• Be aged between 30 and 70 years old

• Are medically fit to drive a car

• Hold a clean licence – this means they can have up to 6 penalty points (no more than two offences) and have had no disqualifications or convictions arising from a motoring offences within the past five years, other than a spent conviction. 

    The car insurance cover is restricted to persons named on the certificate, including the policyholder. Open driving option (explanation provided above) is available but must be specifically requested.
