Weather safe

Storms can bring with them the combined dangers of strong winds, thunder and lightening.

Strong Winds

Prevention is always better than cure, so check for loose roof tiles and problems in advance to have repairs made in time. After a storm passes check again for damage.

For Your Home:

  • Put away garden furniture and loose items
  • Secure gates and shed doors.
  • Bring children and pets indoors
  • Park cars close to buildings
  • Draw blinds on windows to protect against shattered glass
  • Prepare for possible loss of utilities by making sure you have candles and/or torches
  • In a blackout your mobile phone can provide a light source
  • After the storm passes check again for damage

Thunder & Lightening

For Your Home:

  • Unplug electrical goods except for lights
  • Electrical storms can be frightening, especially to children and pets. Keeping calm will reassure them and allow you to better deal with the situation.
  • Draw the blinds on windows
  • Prepare for possible loss of utilities by making sure you have candles and/or torches
  • In a blackout your mobile phone can provide a light source
  • Stay away from windows and doors
