Climate Safe Home

At Allianz Ireland, giving people confidence in tomorrow is at the core of what we do.

Climate change is one of the main challenges facing society today. In response to this challenge, we launched the Climate Safe Homes initiative to accelerate climate adaptive home building in Ireland. 

As a leading insurer of Irish homes and business we are investing €1 million to drive sustainable solutions and collaborative innovation across the financial services and home construction sectors as we work to create a more secure, sustainable future for all.

A Home-Grown Solution

We are partnering with the Irish Green Building Council and others from the construction industry to establish a cross industry working group to provide a home-grown solution for building new homes and renovating existing homes in a sustainable, climate ready way. 

The programme is a first-of-its-kind for the Irish insurance industry and will bring together key stakeholders across construction, engineering, and architecture to pioneer and develop a new home building model designed specifically to withstand the effects of Ireland’s changing climate.

Climate Adaption, an Irish Context

Climate change will put pressure on many of our residential properties in Ireland through climate events such as rising sea levels, increased flooding and storm severity, rising temperatures, and changing rain patterns. 

Our Climate Safe Homes project will develop a model for a climate resilient three bed semi-detached home and will ensure that climate adaptive solutions developed through the project can also be applied to the retrofitting of Ireland’s existing housing stock.  

While the project will be based around a 3 bed semi-detached home to ensure solutions can be applied to retrofit existing homes, all innovation and development from the project will be cognisant of the need for Ireland to adopt more high-density housing models.  

By focusing on the design, construction, and retrofitting of home building in Ireland we can amend and improve current home building to help better withstand the impact of climate change.
