Small yet impactful habits that can minimise your energy footprint.

Electricity
Quick wins
Beat the peak
Electricity demand peaks between 5-7pm, making it more carbon-intensive during these hours. Using electricity outside of this period is good for the planet, and your pocket. Some providers also offer electricity plans with lower rates for off-peak usage. Speak to your energy provider to make sure you understand your plan and options.
Off and out: Unplug for efficiency!
- Remember to switch off lights when you’re leaving a room
- Unplug appliances, especially ones that aren’t used frequently like toasters, blenders, hair dryers and printers. Even in standby mode appliances still draw power which adds up over time.
Watt-wise appliances
Household appliances and electrical goods sold in the EU have energy ratings printed on the label. Appliances with lower ratings use more energy and cost more to run. When it's time to replace your appliances, look for more energy-efficient A+++ rated models.
Brighten your space, lighten your bill
Traditional incandescent bulbs convert around 10% of the energy they consume into light. The rest becomes heat. Switching to more energy effect lighting, for instance, halogen, LEDs, and CLF light bulbs can reduce the energy consumed by lighting by 50 – 85%.
