What is Breakdown Assistance?

Allianz Breakdown Assistance provides you with on site roadside support in the event of a breakdown. This ensures a hassle free recovery with the aim of getting you back on the road as quickly as possible.

We supply a complete breakdown assistance service as an optional extra to our car insurance policyholders. With our breakdown assistance you get peace of mind, knowing that your breakdown will be handled efficiently so you and your passengers can get home safely.

What are the benefits of Breakdown Assistance?

A trusted and competent repairer will be sent to assist you. We will also cover the cost of towing your car to the nearest garage or to your own garage, whichever is the closest, as long as the garage is within 50km/30m from the location of your breakdown. If the garage you wish to go to exceeds this distance we can offer specially negotiated rates to get you there at your own cost. Where your car runs out of fuel or your electric vehicle runs out of battery, we will tow your car to the nearest petrol station or electric charge point, or your home charge point, whichever is closer.

We will also relay two messages to family members or business contacts on your behalf to ensure colleagues and loved ones are informed of your situation.

Journey completion for you and your passengers up to a maximum value of €150/ £100.

Free courtesy car (class A) for up to 48 hours.

Bed & breakfast accommodation when repairs require an overnight stay to a value of €35 per person or to a maximum of €150/ £100.

What emergencies are covered under Breakdown Assistance?

Allianz breakdown assistance covers all mechanical and electrical breakdowns, punctures and wheel changes and if your car is involved in an accident.

You are also entitled to assistance if your car runs out of fuel, or your electric car runs out of battery, your key breaks in your lock or if your keys are locked into your car.

How many times can I use Breakdown Assistance?

We understand that breakdowns can be a common occurrence that's why we offer 4 call-outs in any one period of insurance.

Where am I covered for Breakdown Assistance?

You can avail of the Allianz Breakdown Assistance service in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

What isn’t Covered by Allianz Breakdown Assistance?

Although the emergency of your car being filled incorrectly is covered, the resulting cost of it being fixed is not covered. We will tow your car to the nearest competent garage (maximum 50km/30mile) for assistance.

Recovery that requires specialist equipment.

Incidents which are covered under your motor policy.

The cost of repairs and cost of replacement parts when we have delivered your car to a competent repairer or garage.

Does Allianz Breakdown Assistance Cover Home Starts?

Yes, if your car is in your driveway and will not start, we will send a competent repairer to assist you at your home. Mechanical or electrical breakdown, punctures and lock outs are all covered under Home Start.

What Happens if I Breakdown Roadside?

If you breakdown on the road, our tower/repairer will come to you at the roadside and offer assistance. Once they reach you, they will assess the situation and will try to get you back on the road there and then. 

Some of the things we can do roadside are:

Jump Starts - battery not ticking over? We will restart your car’s battery if it is flat.

Lock Outs - looking at your keys through your locked car window? We will be able to get into your car asap.

Tyre Changes - stranded with a flat or tyre blowout? We can help change your flat tyre or change your wheel and get you back on the road.

Fuel Delivery - run out of fuel? No worries, we’ll get some to you.
