A building contractor generally has insurance policies in place to deal with damage to the contract works during the construction phase and for legal liability arising from their construction activities. Legal liabilities are generally covered by Employers and Public/Product Liability policies. However there is generally an exclusion in respect of loss or damage to or the costs of removing, repairing or replacing any product, structure or contract works caused by any defect therein or unsuitability for its purpose.

You should advise us and let us know when the property is to be demolished. It may make sense to delete buildings cover from your household insurance policy at the point of demolition.
